Practical test: Does a pimples course work in Corona times?

A field report by Sebastian Sauer about the implementation of a pimples course.

I guess we’ll have something to talk about in 20 years…

Last weekend, after a long time, I did a pimpled course again. It was the only course of the year where I was not the organizer myself, but where I was “only” the executor in the hall. Therefore I had agreed to conduct the course despite the current difficult situation.

Before the beginning there was a queasy feeling how the whole thing would go on, if it would be right and if it would be fun and useful… In retrospect I can say that I was positively surprised. The participants had fun and could once again take home valuable insights and aha-moments for their game.

How did the course go?

There were separate entrances and exits and when entering the hall there was a compulsory mask. The mask could then be taken off at the table. The warming up was done by Tobias Braun, who demonstrated exercises from a distance, which the participants could imitate at their half of the table.

During the units the play partners were kept. The demonstration and explanation of the exercises took place at a central table, which was separated from the table of the participants. This made it necessary to speak a little louder than usual. After the training units the balls were disinfected and the tables cleaned. Not only my feedback was extremely positive, but more importantly: the participants were also very satisfied with the execution. The training course was fun for both the coaches and the players and it was therefore a weekend with symbolic character back to a certain normality.

My conclusion: With a well thought-out concept, a professional hall infrastructure, the organisational capacities as well as the discipline of the participants and coaches it is possible to hold a table tennis course. Also in the coming season we will still have to expect many restrictions, so that the pimples course has shown: It works!

What is the situation at your home club? Will you be allowed to play again and if so: with which conditions? How is it organized? And the most important question: Do you feel safe and good and do you enjoy table tennis again? Leave us a comment! We are looking forward to it!

In general I assume that bit by bit more and more players worldwide will find their way back to the table. Our orders for blades and rubbers are also an indicator for this and have increased significantly again. We have received very positive feedback on our new long pimple Hellfire-X almost from the bench. Many players will start the new season with this rubber, which makes us very happy. Meanwhile you can find test videos from different national and international sources on the internet.

In July, we ourselves have recorded some videos about Hellfire X and pimples at the invitation of Simon Moschall’s Spin-College in Hamburg. In our next blog post we will present you the new video for Hellfire X and take you behind the scenes for a day of shooting. So you can stay excited!

Sporty greetings

Your Sebastian

Kind regards from the Sauer & Tröger Team

This time not in the form of a nub on the table tennis bat, but in the form of slicks on the Mercedes AMG GT3 from Winward Racing. Sauer & Tröger was a guest at the Fanatec GT World Challenge at the Hockenheimring.
