Long Pimple - MONKEY

Goal:

Crazy, Crazier, Monkey. A primeval (forest) violence! With the Monkey, the next generation of monkey horny long pimples appears. Playful lightness, impressive dominance and a touch of playfulness meet iconic design.

Generally:

🎶 The monkeys are racing through the forest and the whole monkey gang is roaring...
…who stole the (coconut) points? This is what the first lines of the Monkey song could look like. But from the beginning:
Be the coolest guy in the hall and scare your opponents with the almost forbidden, dangerous long pimple "Monkey"!
The Monkey (also called "Ape" by many) manages to go to the table completely bored and without much effort and win his games. He doesn't even bend his knees and lets his opponents run, make slight mistakes and despair.
You can achieve your sporting goals quite casually and effortlessly with the Monkey.
About the look: the stylish heart-shaped glasses represent the monkey's love for plastic balls.
The cool retro design is definitely reminiscent of the good old days...

Characteristics:

  1. Nub structure:
The pimples of the long pimple rubber Monkey have a high aspect ratio and are quite far apart. This guarantees the greatest possible space for buckling of the pimple heads. The nub necks are fairly smooth, the heads are slightly roughened.
  2. Pimple width:
The nub heads are quite wide. In combination with the roughened nub heads, they ensure a large development of rotation. If you hit the ball well, the opponent will face big problems.
  3. nub hardness
When applying light pressure, the nub heads give a medium-hard appearance. At higher pressure, however, they give way and cause a gentle and soft playing feel. This ensures that the pimple plays in a controlled manner and that balls that are difficult for the opponent to calculate can still be played with offensive shots.
  4. Sponge: The sponge of the sponge version is a new type of dampening sponge that doesn't play too "dead". Definitely worth a try.

Sebastian's tip:

The sponge version with its cushioning sponge is also a real alternative for players who have played OX before. Even if you haven't done it before: Don't be afraid to hit the balls early and boldly with the "Monkey". You will see the results and you will be able to do things that you may not have been able to before.

Conclusion:

Anyone who deals with the background of the "Monkey" will notice: Definitely the coolest of all table tennis rubbers. Paired with outstanding playing characteristics, it is a popular weapon at the table.

Monkey Sponge or OX?

I have never had a strong BH flick and (wrongly) compensated for that weakness for many years by chop blocking and aggressively pushing with fast Tenergy rubbers on BH, then depending on my excellent FH to win most points. However, as advancing age caught up with me, this limited BH tactic became ever less effective against more mobile aggressive youngsters, so I tried long pimples.

Some of the faster LPs I tried were uncontrollable, and others, including Monkey with the 0.6mm dampening sponge proved too slow on my Innerforce ALC Blade, despite me historically favouring the correct BH block/chop block/push tactics illustrated in the demonstration videos. Monkey OX proved better on my old blade, but when I put Monkey OX on an S & T Zeus blade it suddenly delivered the promised ease of use in both attack and defence.

The transformation after changing blade was almost like magic. I could even now perform a stronger BH flick with confidence as Monkey OX is so controllable, yet annoyingly disruptive for opponents. I unexpectedly found myself beating higher ranked players with surprising ease with little or no adjustment to my former “style”. My experience is therefore that converting to BH long pimples is (arguably) easier when combining BOTH the right rubber and the right blade.

I now have S & T Hass short pips on my previously decent FH and my peers hate playing against me. I suspect embracing a Banana blade with Monkey OX/Hass combination is similar, but I love this combination on Zeus.

Perfect balanced

Monkey is one of the most balanced long pips rubbers in the market. The relation 1:1:1 between size of the pips and separation between them, make it ideal for blocking close to the table but, at the same time, ideal for opening the attack in combination with a OFF blade as Banana. When I use it for the first time, it felt natural for playing close to the table. The ball reached easily the other part of the table without making a big effort, not to fast and not to short, perfect for making long rallies. It feels like a wall, I think first the opponent will get tired attacking than you blocking with them.

alten Zelluloid gespielt, damals spielte

We love nubs ❤️
